I've been thinking a lot about being prepared for emergencies, disasters, or other life altering events lately. It might have something to do with my little nephew who was just diagnosed with a brain tumor at 6-months old and watching my sister and her family deal with the challenges that come with an unplanned new life experience. It might have something to do with my husbands dream of being an emergency essentials planner and helping everyone be prepared for a disaster. Or it could be me just looking for a way to have a peace of mind when dealing with unexpected life suprises.
As a mother of five daughters (really only meant to have two - but who's complaining?), I worry about what kind of future they will have. Will they be prepared to meet challenges ahead? We all know growing up brings it's own challenges and my oldest is just about to become a tween. That will be life altering!! Will I be prepared to manage things as they come up and not fall apart due to lack of planning or? Can we survive as a family when life throws the curveballs?
I'm writing this as I'm watching the rain turn to snow and listening to the drip coming from my kitchen window (because, yes, I have a leaky balcony just over the kitchen that needs to be fixed). I'm also avoiding the downstairs at the moment because there might be water down there too. It has been raining very hard for at least 12 hours now. Am I prepared for this? Probably not. I guess I'd better face the downstairs.
